Zoya Akhtar admits she could have changed “certain things with The Archies’ screenplay, marketing” 

The recent episode of Expresso featured a fascinating father-daughter duo, Javed Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar, discussing poetry, screenwriting, and filmmaking. While Javed shared his vast experience, Zoya offered her unique insights. During a rapid-fire round, Zoya was asked about her experience making The Archies.

Zoya Akhtar's Reflections on The Archies When asked what she might have done differently in The Archies, Zoya admitted, “I think there are certain things with the screenplay, I could have done differently. And, certain things with the marketing.” While she didn't elaborate on the specific changes, it's clear she has some hindsight.

For the unversed, Zoya Akhtar is a renowned filmmaker with critically acclaimed movies like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Dil Dhadakne Do, Gully Boy, and segments in Lust Stories and Ghost Stories. She is also a board member of MAMI.

Speaking of The Archies, it marked the debut of Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan, Boney Kapoor-Sridevi’s daughter Khushi Kapoor, and Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda, among others. It was directly released on Netflix.  The Archies and OTT Censorship During the conversation, Zoya discussed the lack of censorship on OTT platforms and its impact on filmmaking. She believes that consensual intimacy should be showcased on screen without restrictions. However, she also acknowledges that artistic choices and cultural sensitivities play a significant role in how such content is portrayed.
