Anand Tiwari speaks on Arjun Rampal’s cameo in Bandish Bandits Season 2: “I wanted to break stereotype"

The second season of Bandish Bandits premiered on December 13 on Prime Video, continuing the musical journey of Radhe and Tamanna. Among the many highlights of the new season is Arjun Rampal’s cameo as Imroz Dehelvi, a writer who has left audiences intrigued. Director Anand Tiwari shared insights into crafting this unexpected character and why Rampal was his ideal choice for the role.

Breaking Stereotypes With Imroz Dehelvi Speaking about Imroz’s character, Tiwari explained his intent to challenge clichés around writers and poets on screen. “We often picture writers and poets in kurta-pajamas, barefoot, carrying a bag. But they can be anything, come from anywhere—even a music school. I wanted Imroz Dehelvi to surprise the audience, to challenge expectations, and seeing Arjun Rampal as that poet definitely breaks the stereotype,” Tiwari said.

On working with Rampal, he added, “Arjun is a dear friend who graciously said yes without knowing much about the role. His depth, security, and gravitas are qualities I have seen him portray in so many films. While working with him on Nail Polish, I discovered even more that made him the ideal Imroz.” Subtle Chemistry Between Imroz and Nandini Tiwari also discussed the dynamic between Rampal’s Imroz and Divya Dutta’s Nandini. Drawing parallels with their earlier collaboration in Dhaakad, he said, “What struck me was the chemistry they shared—it was understated yet magnetic. Their connection is defined by what’s unsaid. A simple exchange like ‘I’ve come,’ or ‘All the best’ carries layers of meaning. That’s the beauty of a mature relationship—the unspoken emotions create the most profound bond.” A Stellar Ensemble Cast The new season, created by Amritpal Singh Bindra and Anand Tiwari, features an ensemble cast including Ritwik Bhowmik, Shreya Chaudhry, Sheeba Chaddha, Atul Kulkarni, and Rajesh Tailang. It also introduces Divya Dutta, Rohan Gurbaxani, Yashaswini Dayama, and others in pivotal roles.
