Actor Aamir Khan recently shared insights into his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par during an engaging conversation with the Just Too Filmy YouTube channel. Known for his meticulous approach to filmmaking and dubbed “Mr. Perfectionist,” Khan revealed why his next project deliberately avoids action, despite its current dominance in cinema, and how he continues to prioritize storytelling over trends.
A Family Entertainer with a Message of Inclusion In the interview, Khan stated his commitment to creating films he believes in, even if they defy market expectations. Speaking about Sitaare Zameen Par, he said, “Look at the kind of films being made today… My film Sitaare Zameen Par doesn’t have any action… there isn’t even a slap in it. It’s a family entertainer; it’s a humorous film. It’s a drama, it talks about inclusion. This was a story that taught us so much, it made us realize—‘Oh, this is happening with our children, this is happening with us.’ I hope you’ll feel these things ten times more in this film.” Defying Trends with Storytelling He further elaborated on his filmmaking philosophy, contrasting Sitaare Zameen Par with the action-packed trends dominating theaters. “If I want to watch action, I’ll go watch action films. There’s no action in this. This is how I know how to make films. I’ve always believed that ultimately, it’s the story that connects. There’s a phase when action films work, but then they eventually fade away.” Reflecting on Ghajini and Swimming Against the Tide Khan drew parallels with his 2008 blockbuster Ghajini, recalling the skepticism he faced at the time. “When my film Ghajini released, action films weren’t doing well, and people told me, ‘The era of action films is over, and now you’re bringing an action film.’ I said, ‘I don’t follow trends anyway.’ When Ghajini released, many action films had flopped. My thinking was different, so I constantly had to swim against the stream. The choices I made for my films were never in line with the market. I always faced pushback from the market. I had to prove myself. When I delivered 8-10 hits, people started thinking, ‘He must be doing something right.’”
Having said that it is worth mentioning here that the makers of Sitaare Zameen Par are yet to announce the film’s release date.
